El Careyes - Fishing and Snorkeling Trip aboard 'Sophia'
A 2 Hour Boat Trip Aboard The 'Sophia'
On Thursday, May 27th we chartered a boat to go fishing, snorkeling and exploring around the Costa Careyes area. Jaime was our captain, along with his son, Alejandro and the boat was called 'Sophia' after one of Jaime's daughters. We left the shore of El Careyes beach at 9 am and headed south to some incredible rock formations and caves. The boat was a beautiful 23 foot skiff and the water was mostly smooth.
Later during the trip, Jaime put 4 fishing lines into the water and we cruised around until we got a bite. After the first bite, it was Austin's turn to try to reel in the fish. After a few minutes of wrangling, he was able to bring in a nice Barilete fish.
Next it was Bryce's turn . . .
Lunch at Playa Rosa
After 2 and 1/2 hours on the boat it was time to head back to the hotel and have lunch. We decided to head over to the other part of the resort for lunch at Playa Rosa beach. This turned out to be a great decision as the beach there is different than the main beach at El Careyes -- it's a bit more secluded and private. And the Food Truck that makes the food for breakfast and lunch there was really great.
And, of course we had to have some wine along with lunch. This time it was Chardonnay from Casa Madero, the same Mexican winery responsible for the Cabernet Blend we had a few nights before.
Dinner at La Coscolina
For dinner we headed back to the small town of Pueblo Careyes, near where we had eaten a few nights before. This was a short taxi ride from the hotel. La Coscolina is known to be a very healthy, farm-to-table Mexican restaurant with a pretty eclectic menu. From Tacos to Pad Thai to fresh made Hummus and vegetarian entrees, they really had a lot of interesting choices. For this meal, we brought along a French Burgundy that we bought at the store nearby.
